Intuition & Healing

Join Dr. Jeanne on Saturday January 5th  2013, at 7 pm at New Renaissance Bookstore, for a presentation on “Intuition & Healing”.  This topic will be explored more deeply with an exercise  to tap into your own intuition.

“ Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself. There’s no need to go to India or somewhere else to find peace. You will find it in your room, your garden, or even in your bathtub”. Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

What is intuition?  Intuition is derived from Latin which means to look inside or contemplate.

  1. Intuition is the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. It is a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning.

We all have intuition; often it goes unrecognized as it did in my story. Intuition is integral to the process of  healing.

For 25 years I worked as an RN in a number of large and small hospitals on the east coast and here in Oregon. My career included working in the highly stressful units of critical care – ICU (intensive care unit) and Emergency Rooms (ER). I seemed to crave this type of work and one could say I was an “adrenaline junkie”. During those years the condition of the victims that came bursting through the ER doors was relatively unknown and we had to work quickly as a team to save lives. Then one day in moments of deep reflection, a clear voice from deep inside me spoke. The message was that I no longer needed to work in the stressful environment of urban trauma and triage. Subsequently, the story of my own mother’s demise by suicide became painfully clear. As an infant in the next room at the time of her death, I was helpless to save her. My quest to save so many others through my work was an effort to save my dear mother.

I left critical care nursing forever, after this intuitive reflection. It was the best decision of my life and it probably saved my own life from the ravages of unrelentling stress.

Rudolf Steiner postulated that intuition is the third of three stages of higher knowledge, coming after imagination and inspiration.

What does your intuition say to you? Intuition is the direct perception of truth. We need to touch the truth and we can through our own intuition.

Other ways we know intuition are called “gut feeling”, “a little voice in my heart”, or “a whisper in my ear”.  It can come to you in many different ways.

“Your intuition will tell you where you need to go; it will connect you with people you should meet; it will guide you toward work that is meaningful for you – work that brings you joy, work that feels right for you.
Shakti Gawain
